1999 Stettler to Coronation Trip - Photo Courtesy Don Wilson
I came across some pictures the other day of a trip that Dad and I made to Coronation on a 6060 break-in run in June of 1999. I scanned the pictures so the quality isn’t that great but just the same they are definitely part of history now. I really like the photo of Dad and Harry in the cab, a retired CP guy and a retired CN guy. They got along very well together and there was certainly no shortage of stories to be told. Dad retired with 45 years on the CPR and it was pretty amazing that in 1999 he was 90 years old and could still climb up into the cab of a steam locomotive.

Rocky Mountain Rail Society receives a Boxcar
Rocky Mountain Rail Society were working with Canadian Pacific Railway a few years back. We had purchased some 85 lbs. rail that also included some switch’s and switch parts. While engaged in this process Jonathan Hanna the Heritage officer for the CPR contacted us about the possibility of extending a donation to the society. We had been moving some of our heavy equipment to Stettler by truck but would need something larger to complete our last move. A number of boxcars became available for donation we were instructed to go to Ogden Shops Calgary and have a look at them. With a carman I knew from the CPR we went to have a look. We picked out this one you see in the photo. Alstom Canada who were in charge of the car shop at the time agreed to repair a sliding door and to repaint the car to a 1950’s style pattern. This car is currently stored serviceable at Big Valley. It has been a valuable addition to the society as it has been used as a movie theatre, an RMRS display car as well as a storage car for many different artifacts owned by the society.
Job Completed on Rocky Mountain Rail Society Boxcar
Alstom Canada completed the work on the boxcar in time for a Canada Day Celebration. The stairs in front of the car were built by the students and staff of Lord Shaughnessy High School in Calgary.
